Smile New Front Leaf Springs

I got my front leaf springs replaced with the 2004 superduty springs. NOw I just have to find matching rear springs then figure out if I need to put blocks under the rear too. The pictures are in my gallery under new front leaf springs.

Was this a difficult swap? Did you need any special parts?

I just finished installing 06 F-550 rear leafs on my '77 F250 HD. I kept the original front hanger and used the F-550 rear hangers. A very little modification was needed to install the rear hangers. Took me about 10 hours.

the 2004 superduty front springs, I used a flap disc on a grinder to grind down the edges of the metal bushing in the front of the new leaf spring to clear for ease of installation, I took about 3 hours on the first leaf spring with two jacks and 4 jack stands, and the second installation only took about an hour. Also need to get an adjustable drag link to adjust the steering wheel back I had to lengthen mine about 1 inch. Also need bigger diameter bolts to fill the bushings on the leaf springs. Drilled larger holes in the rear shackles.

Red face

Got one more question for ya. I found a set of springs on ebay. Were the ones that you used a two leaf unit. And also did it improve your ride any. I know I will get bashed for this but I am looking for something a little smother ride.

Thanks Stephan

Yes mine were a two leaf unit, but they didn't help it ride any smother.

Did installing the springs lift the front any. And would you have any idea where to get the drag linkfor the steering.

On my truck the original frotn springs were worn out and I estimating it raised it 2 to 4 inches. As for the drag link should be able to go to a parts store and if they know what your talking about they can get you an adjustable drag link off the measurements from your old one and if you measure the distance between the arm on your steering box to your arm on the front axle. I haven't had time to get one yetr for my truck.

on my 01' psd i replaced the front springs with stock units from a low mileage wreck, initially it raised it about 3 inches, but they have settled about two inches, is there anything i can do to counter this settling???? I don't really want to put an add a leaf in, but i dont wanna fork up 400 bucks for front springs. It's very frusterating because the day after i put the fronts in i orderd a 2" add a leaf for the rear to level her out, but then it settled and the 2" in the rear gave the truck a rediculous rake.

springs naturally settle no real way around that. Can have them re-arched, but it costs a lot. a sturdier spring will fight it off a little better but it will kill your ride quality. Sorry, but on my driver- smooth is MUCH more important than height. I hate riding in my buddie's "buckboard". I've ridden in a corvette with a smoother suspension than his truck- and i hate it. Hauling a load if he hits a bump his plastic tool bowhich is bolted only to the bedliner) hops up 6-8 inches and it feels like the bed is coming apart.

Add-a-leaf in the front is the easiest fix.
