Hello, I just finished converting my 77 F-100 over from regular brakes to power, I went to the salvage yard and got a booster, and linkage off of a 76 F-250, I assumed they all used the same set up.
I now have power brakes, and they work just fine, however my pedal is now about 3 inches closer to the floor, and my stop light switch is the same distance away from it's contact point, needless to say my brake lights are on all the time.
Did Ford use a different pedal for power brakes? I really didn't pay any attention when I took the other parts off.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure about the pedal, some one that has done this mod before should know. But I did find out after years of asking and finally reading the service manual that the pushrod between the booster and the master cylinder is adjustable. I went around with low brake pedal, almost to the floor, for years until I found out about the pushrod. I adjusted it as per the manual and now I have full pedal. It sure feels good to have the pedal near the top when you plant on the brakes.
I could possibly scan the page on this adjustment if you don't have a shop manual and send it to you. I hope this helps, Gary
Just did the same to my 75.You should use the pedal assy from the donor truck. You can make the switch work with spacer of sorts but the proper way is to use the power brake pedal assy.
