Guys thanks for all the info. I will keep i touch wit all you guys to see how you all are coming alomg on your projects. I'm going to pick up the 302 in a week. I still don't know about the C6 trans. It is already set up with a floor shift now. The motor runs but it does have alot of miles on it. Buyt for $100 dollars for everything I couldn't pass it up. Should I try to find another rear end out of a newer for truck or will the one in my 48 be fine. I was told a 67-69 ford truck rearend will set right down in my 48. I just don't want to get my angles off ant on my drive line. Would you guys leave the original rear end in or swap it out to. Thanks Scott

I want to be able to drive around at least 55-65 mph. Mostly where I will be drive your looking a 60 mph to keep up with traffic. That is a comfortable cruizing speed where I live. Would a rear end out of a 1985 ford truck work to. The motor I;m getting that is what it is coming out of. And I know the rear end is good. What do you guys think. Thanks Scott

Well I have driven 6500 miles witht he stock 3.92 geared dana 44 rear end this year. I have taken it on the Turnpike twice and while it was tached up pretty good it wasn't alarming to go 70 MPH....it just drank a good bit of gas.
That said the 500 HP motor I have in it has sheared the spider pin on me a while back (I replaced it and ran another 2000 miles)......I blew it out again this weekend showing off.....I fixed it again BUT I did pick up a replacement rear end for it to swap in in the near future..
I got a 1970 ford 9 and a quarter inch (SAME housing and axles as a ford 9" but the centersection has a slightly bigger ring gear a few small diferences and has some aditional ribbing on the outside) rear axle out of an f-100 4x4.
The good things about that particular axle is that:
A) it is the exact WMS to WMS dimension
B) it has the exact spring perch to spring perch dimension (it may need shimmed to make the pinion angle correct.....I haven't installed it yet to know for sure)
C) it has the same bolt patern
D) it accepts the stock brake backing plates and drums like they belong there (this is nice since I had rebuilt my stock rear brakes recently and would like to keep using them)
E) it has 31 spline axles (ALL ford 9.25" axles have 31 splines)
F) it has 3.50 gears AND a L/S (most 9.25" axles are limited slip)
G) It seems that I won't have to modify my driveshaft since it "seems" that it matches the existing distance closely
the shock mounts are the only thing that need modified to prevent this from being a total bolt in swap.
