and yet another excuse for them to raise diesel prices because "all the diesel sales"
yea right.
i am sure the epa will find anyway possible to kill this somehow, we wouldn't want the states to get less gas tax would we?
but heck yea, i would love to see a small diesel! i am waiting for a mid size suv diesel to come out, not a preppy one, a more old school type.

There are engines out there right now that would be perfect for the Ranger, Exploder, F150. BMW's new 330 oil burner sports an inline with 369 lb-ft, and MB had both an inline and V6 that put out similar numbers. Both types run more like a gas motor would, with higher rpm ranges. (4800 redline on the BMW).
Gosh, if Ford can't come up with one, (or Toyota for that matter) why don't they just reverse-engineer one of these babies?
Oh, and they meet the new emissions stuff too.....

Good point but I am sure Toyota also realizes an "American" diesel with wide name brand acceptance would score some points with the "red neck-gun rack toting" truck buyer who only consider Dodge, GM and Ford when its time to buy a truck.
It would be along the same line as Nissan bragging they are using Dana axles under some of their trucks.

funny thing to me is toyo owns hino it's thier hd truck line. " my bother in law used to be vp of sales for hino usa". hino has some world class in line 4 and 6 cyl.engines of small displacement and size. plus it would not be toyo's first to the usa turbo diesel.they had one back in the early part of the mid 80's in the pickup truck. small in line 4 that could pull stumps out of the earth.
it's past time for them. just they have been pushing electric so hard they have to play catch up again with the truck power plants.

I used to have a Trooper Diesel, that thing was awesome. I got it to break 50mpg at one point.
My money would be on Toy going after JD diesels, just for the following they have. Just because they used to have a good diesel, doesn't mean they have one they can use now. The standards for light, medium, and heavy diesel engines are very different to begin with, with different engine monitoring and control systems, and different emissions requirements.
