Oil pan removal

Is it possible to remove the oil pan on a 1996 PSD without lifting the motor OR pulling out the crossmember. Gasket is leaking like a sive and I already have the front diff out so what better time to do it.

Thanks

to renmove the pan you have to lift it, maybe you can drop the pan and feed the gasket through, hard to say. I've just replaced pans

I think you probably can, but you'll have to jack the motor up enough to get a wrench on the oil pick-up tube bolts. Once the tube is free from the engine (laying down in the pan) there should be enough room to get the pan out the back.

BTW, there is no oil pan gasket, only silicone, so you could try cleaning the outside of the pan flange and running another bead around it.

pull it--itll never clear--been there--and--the rtv they use--is a pain in butt--dang near need chisel to get it to seperate--even though you have leak---make sure when replace---you only the ford gray rtv--and clean the pan rail--and block rail---SPOTLESS--you dont want ot pull it again--and while its out--put in new rear main seal also--much easier when its out----

Thanks. I might give that a try. It is pretty oily so I doubt I'll be able to get it clean enough to keep it from leaking again.

You'd probably have to pull the turbo and disconnect the engine from everything and jack it up until it touches the top. Then you'll need to let it sit at least 3 or 4 days for the oil to stop dripping. You'll also need to make sure you don't bump and crack the pick up tube or you'll be doing it all again. It's actually faster just to pull the motor.

I've just yanked the engine out to replace the oil pan, with the engine out I usually go through the whole engine and make sure everything is good on it. Typically I replace the rear main seal because its already there and take a close look at eveything else.

Typically on the super dutys with the engine out I usually change all the turbo pedistal o-rings, oil cooler o-rings, rear turbo collector gaskets while resealing the oil pan amoung other things.

There is only one left of the OBS trucks at my job, all the OBS trucks have been replaced.

Food for thaught............on the Econoline ambualances with the 7.3's we have actualy drained the oil out of the oil pan and welded patches over the rust holes.........its a little micky mouse but it would be to labour intensive working around all the electrical of the ambulance to pull the engine and if it works....management is happy.
