A couple of issues 96 aero

Gas mileage- new plugs, new maf, cleaned inj with techron milage still sucks. While looking around i noticed some wrench marks on the cps. Is there anyway to verify whether it has been changed?

Transmission- weird- when driving around town and it comes to a small grade or a slight change in throttle, the trans downshifts from 3rd to 2nd and shifts back to 3rd right away.

Engine cooling- never seems to get hot. temp gauge reads in middle and in the winter it takes forever to warm up.

any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated
thanks

ps whats seafoam?

Welcome 96bluegreen,

engine 3 or 4L?
mileage?
last time O2 sensor changed?
any codes?

2>3 shift...hold old is tranny ATF? last filter change? how old is vac. modulator if year is pre '96? change if either is older than 5 years or has more than 50k miles

change thermostat and coolant if older than 2 years...thermostats stick open on these....temp gauge is not accurate

Seafoam is a hydrocarbon engine cleaner that soaks and breaks loose carbon in combustion chamber and ring pack grooves...Berrymans B12 is about the same stuff

Hi

It's a 3.0 with 51k i bought used. So i don't know about any maintenance other that what i've done.

Do you know how many oxy sensors are on this thing? I went to buy 1 and they said there are 2 but i only found one in front of the cat, and i checked all the way back to the muffler.

thanks

There is one before and after the cat. If there is not, then you have a '95. What kind of plugs did you use? If they were not Autolites or Mtorcraft double platinum plugs, then that is most likely part of the problem. Also how are the wires?

O2 sensor

My 94 with a 3.0 has ONLY one 02 sensor. I believe the early model 2.8 and 4 cylinders are the ones with two 02 sensors.

No, it's the newer models with OBD-II that would have two O2 sensors.

I believe you are right. I prefer aeros made in 94 and 95 cause they dont have to pass emmision tests and they have the "new type" freon. Also I heard that some of the pre 1994 aeros were bad for tranny problems.

All OBD-II code readers are the same. I in a lot of ways prefer the Late -95 - 97 models, because they are the ones that don't need to pass emissions. As an OBD-II model they monitor their own emissions. It helps them get better gas mileage and in some cases produce more power.

build your own + free PC WindozeXP software click

2002 Ranger may be CAN system???
all OBDII scanner/code reader systems take same PC software basically....only 4 or 5 different diagnostic port plugs per car manuf.
