Installing new rotors on my '96 w/ ABS
I got everything apart last night. The rotors measure out below minimum spec. and will need replacing. Question - how is the "speed control ring" held onto the back of the hub (ABS excitation ring)? I assume it's a press fit, but I am not sure how you take the ring off without breaking it....is there a special tool for the press to remove?
I'm stumped....
Thanks

Make sure you check rotor runout with dial indicator, Too much runout and you will feel a little pulse in brake pedal. Mine runout was at the limit of Ford's spec, so I'll get the rotors turned next time they come off the truck.
, Small Harbor freight press to install studs ( U joints, ball joints, bearing races, etc) saves alot of pounding works great for the money.

I did my rotrs and bearings on my 93 for the first time last weekend. I used the one piece rotor and hub assembly like Streetgang was saying accept I got mine from Bronco Graveyard. The tone ring, lugs, and bearing races are already built into the assembly. This is the link for a 96 wth ABS..

Exactly.....this makes life much more easy, and makes the job much faster. I had to put a set of pads on about three months ago. I got lazy and just slapped the pads on and that was it.......bad move. The truck pulled HARD to the left. Squealed like a stuck pig, and stopping distances were much longer. So.....after about two weeks driving around like that, trying to tell myself that they will wear in I finally broke down and bought another set of pads.....pulled the rotors off and put them on the lathe and cut them down just a bit (like I should have done in the first place) cleaned everything and re greased it all. Tell you what.....the dam Bronco will out brake a Ferrari now!
