Roof Rack/Cargo Carrier?

Anyone here run a roof rack on thier Superduty? If so, PICS? I have a lightbar (Assistant Chief of a Fire Department) and was thinking of removing it and putting a roof rack with a few LED lights tucked into it. I would like to get rid of the lightbar, but I still need the warning lights up top. Corner strobes don't cut it. Mine is a Super Crew long bed.

Sounds like a good idea.

Have you been able to find a rack that's actually a roof mount? Most all of the one's I've looked at are made to be mounted on a 'glass topper, but I haven't looked all that hard.

I think I like the safari racks looks a little better, but the urban rack will have a little less drag.....and may look better with lights in it with the smaller openings.

there was a truck in one of my off-road mags, where it was a Crew cab long bed, with a roof mounted rack. had 8" lift, 37'' Procomp Xtreme AT tires, black powdercoated wheels and some other stuff. i will keep trying to find it.

found it- July 2006 of Diesel Power. it is a "defender series roof rack from Off Road Unlimited.

The only way I know to mount a rack on the roof is to either install 2 tracks or 4 rain gutter adapters. You can buy load bars to fit either track or gutter adapters and then mount the basket or whatever to the load bars. You will have to drill holes in the roof no matter what system you use. You should check out Thule or Yakima for racks and type of mounting configurations.

Another Option

I picked up a roof rack that was removed from a new Suburban when it was streched into a limo. It is a low profile rack, with adjustible lateral bars, and easy to mount with short sheet metal screws. The best part is that there are no bow tie markings on it to clash with my F250. These are common, high profit, dealer add-ons, so most SUVs that were bought off the lot, both Ford and GM, had them installed. As such, should be plenty available in the junk yards. The rack floor pads in trucksxccessary will help a lot in distributing the load. No pictures yet, plan to install next month.
