Rocker/follower Fell Off

Rocker/follower Fell Off
I Have A 1999 F250. There Was A Knocking Sound So I Took The Drivers Side Valve Cover Off And Found The Rocker Arm Laying There. It Looks Like Theres No Damage To The Rocker, But What Should I Do? How Much Damage Could This Cause? This Is A 4.6l Sohc Engine. Any Help Would Be Appreciated, Thanks

It probably had oil that was too thick, then someone over revved it when cold, causing the rocker to fall off. This seems to happen quite a bit on the older models.
Thick oil and high rpms are the most common culprit. A bad lash adjuster will cause it too, but if it is not ticking after you pop the follower back on you are probably ok.
Work the follower up under the cam from the exhaust side, align over the valve and under the cam. Pull the follower up to the lash adjuster (lifter)as far as you can. Take a big screwdriver and place behind the hump on the follower that sits over the lash adjuster, and pry back aganist the cam very hard.
The follower should pop back on. It may take a few trys, but they usually pop back pretty easy. Make sure the cam is in the valve closed position, and it helps a lot if you pull out the lash adjuster and slowly bleed it down first. When I first restart I hold the throttle wide open to keep the engine from firing while I crank the engine over several times to build up the lifters.
If you have a Romeo engine with the big cam girdle it is a little tighter, but still realitively easy. The cam lobe edges are very sharp, and you can come away looking like you tried to feed a wildcat if you are not careful.

I have the same problem with a 94 Cougar that I'm working on right now. #2 intake valve is not closing completely. The car ran out of oil for a short period of time (Not my nieces fault, but that's another story). It appearantly charred the oil on the valve stem and it will not close completely unless you pry it up with a screwdriver. Cyl#2 has 0 compression. Just a thought if you find a dead cylinder.

Follower off
Just put #4 exhaust follower back on.Same story here, got the truck cheap because it was missing & Knocking. It still ticks at times.
Cleaned off 1/2" of muck from under the rocker cover, probably what plugged the lifter orifice
Already added sea foam to the oil, anything else I can use to break down the crap in the engine oil system?
BTW LXman thanks for the help in "coolant on piston"
