Broken Rocker Stud removal

I have a 1973 Ford F100, with a 302 in it. I got it when I was in high school and drove it around for a few years. I graduated and went to college and left it sitting. I came back and remembered that it used to leak oil out of the head covers. So I went and bought new gaskets and oil. Pulled off the head covers and one of my rockers was just laying in there. The Rocker stud is pressed and it sheared off. Luckily there's no metal shavings in there or any other damage but, I cannot get the rocker stud out for the life of me. I've tried threading the outside of it with no luck. I really don't want to have to take off the heads so if anyone has any ideas on how to remove it please let me know!

If there's any kind of stud nubbie left, weld a nut on it....use some PB Blast while it's still warm....take a good whiff, too... - no, don't whiff! It contains some lead (Pb) and is dangerous to one's health. But it does smell good....haha...like the old leaded gas.

Once the nut is on there, work it back and forth 'till it moves.

If there's not enough nub showing you could weld a stud on it and do the same thing using vice grips.

If you can't weld, spray the little culprit with PB Blast and let it set for an hour or two. Then soak it again...and again...then try it.

....And welcome. Lots of good people here.

Those studs are pressed-in, so I doubt Pblaster is going to help loosen them. The usual method for removing them is to put spacers over the stud and torquing a nut with washers on top of the spacers to draw out the stud.

Have you tried drilling a hole into the stud and tapping that? If you manage to do that, you can use a bolt with spacers to try to extract it.

If that doesn't work, then I would weld onto it a threaded rod, or even the broken off stud. Then use the nut and spacer method for extracting the stud so you can replace it.
