How many miles on it? I have about 2k on my o6 and noticed that the fronts had grooves forming already. Strange and alarming at the same time.

I wouldn't call mine grooves more so than just circular scratches. The rears look prestine, but the fronts look like they are taking a beating. I hope this isn't the start of the brake vibration.

I had the same problem. Both rotors, '05 model. I returned it to the dealer about 2K miles before warranty expired.
They turned both rotors, replaced the pads and installed new calipers.
That was about 6K miles ago.
So far, so good.

i have the same issue on my 03 expy. the stock pads cut into the rotor. so i got new rotors under warranty and bought some ceramic pads and it has been fine for 30k now.

Just had the front brakes changed on my 2004 new body ( the brakes weren't shot but i was concerned about the rotors). I have 34k--they warrantied the rotors because of the wear. The service tech said there is a major problem with rotors on the f-150 warping out also!

I thought that brakes were not a warranty item as they fall under normal wear and tear just like air filters.

I've never seen a Ford dealer warranty any type of brake work on a vehicle with more than 5000 miles.

Couldn't the groove be caused by rocks or dirt getting between the pad and the rotor? I guess it doesn't even need to be a rock just plain dirt would do it. I know on our chevy work trucks everytime we take them out on gravel roads they end up squeeling do to the dirt. I wouldn't think the dealer would warrenty that.

I've never seen a Ford dealer warranty any type of brake work on a vehicle with more than 5000 miles.
In the cases cited, the issue was outside "normal wear and tear". There was a known issue with rotors up thru some build date (in Dec '04) that would get you free rotors if you had problems.
In my case, the rotors got grooves on both sides, and warped just a little as well. The dealer asked no questions and handled the issue better than I might have expected.
Only problem is I now have front rotors that have been turned once, rather than new rotors. But, I did get new pads and calipers.

As a side note, the brakes prior to the work just never seemed to feel 100% "firm". Sometimes felt like there might have been a little air in the lines.
After the work was done, that problem is gone.

True....I always thought that brakes/rotors were NOT a warranty item. But in my case just like BrianA's. No questions were asked and the rotors were changed out.

See i thought my brakes had a problem. mine squell real bad i took the truck in and they said just needed pads and rotors turned but warranty would not cover it. even though i argued that with only 15000 miles on the truck that should not be normal. i know that i haul heavy loads with my truck but i've never had breaks deterrated like these ones. i too feel that my brakes are'nt all that good. i've always really had to get on the brakes to stop.
is there anything written about that build day prior to dec 04?

See this thread:

And I do think there is mroe info in the Brakes forum. You'd just have to search it and see.

I seem to remember the service manager mentioning that my rotors had a green dot on them indicating I had the new style rotors.
