My brakes started vibrating at about 13,000 miles, now they're much worse. i think the brake warranty only goes to 12,000. Have you guys had any luck at the dealer with this... Or just been stonewalled into paying for the fix?
Warped rotors after 13K is definitely not a normal maintenance issue.
I had rotors replaced under warrenty at 14500. Now have 24000, and they are warped again. Taking it in this week for that and a couple of other issues.
I have a 2005 that I am set to take by the dealer Friday morn for front rotor replacement.
I have 32,000 miles on the truck and have noticed a shudder when braking for about the last 2000 miles. I want to get it addressed before the warranty runs out at 36K miles.
So far this is the only problem I have had with the truck.
I had a 2000 model F150 that I sold at almost 170,000 miles. I replaced front pads 4 or 5 times during the time I owned the truck and never had the rotors turned once and it was smooth as silk when braking.
Oh well, I guess nothings's perfect - at least I can get it addressed before the warranty expires.
My dealer did a complete front brake job on my old 2003 F-150 with 18,000 miles on it and either covered it under warranty or covered it themselves as I did not pay a dime for it.
The dealer said that the brakes should not have been worn out after that short of mileage so it was covered.
Thanks Kevin.
I'll be sure to ask the dealer about this ahead of time. I do not want, or intend, to pay for replacement pads, UNLESS the charge is very reasonable.
The pads are not near worn out and if they have to be replaced, I can do it myself in the driveway in an hour for about $25.
The current rotors are warped and all I expect is for them to be replaced. Anything past that is my responsibility and I should decide if I'll pay the dealer or do it myself.
Got mine fixed at around 22k miles. The 2004 has had their issues with the front rotors vibrating and warping. Something to do with the rotors and calipers. I actually went in to get the drive shaft repaired and the dealer asked if I was having vibration problems with the front and fixed it with no problem at all.
I just got my 04 "fixed" about a week ago (TSB with the new front rotors) even though my truck was completely non-symptomatic. (17K miles)
I knew about the TSB, and even took in a copy, so I asked my local dealer service writer (good guy!) if he could get me the new rotors. "No problem. I'll take care of you."
I have an 04 and my brakes were squealing and the rotor's were vibrating, took it to the dealer a couple of months ago with 21,000 miles on it and they replaced the rotor's and the calipers which included new brake pad's.The service manager said that I shouldn't be having any brake problem's with that low of mile's and replaced everything without question.
The second guys mentioned the TSB right away. Took it in, they said they're going to change the calipers only (pads come with em.) But have to order the calipers.
Clowns left my hood unlatched though, I wasn't happy about that. So I found a good place to pull over and called em and let the service manager know quite firmly those types of mistakes are not something he wants to be held responsible for, and makes me hesitant to want to go back in or recommend to someone else. Coulda just as easily been a loose drain plug or loose lugnuts.
I mentioned how my brother's hood flew up on him on his landcruiser and busted the windshield and frame. "Oh yeah.. that can kill you". No **** sherlock.
UPDATE: I stopped by this morn for my 8 am service appointment. They took my truck back and a few hours later they rolled it out, ready to go.
The service writer did confirm my truck has the new style rotors.
They turned both front rotors and installed new caliper assemblies and pads on both sides.
A smile and a handshake and I was on my way.
I know Dealer experiences can vary wildly - I have been in a situation at a GM dealer (company car 10 or so years back) where I was ready to burn the car in the lot. But, in this case, I am happy with my experience.
