97 diesel computer removal

i've got a 97 powerstroke with 5 speed trans. i've got to take the chip out(hypermax) and clean the terminals to diagnose a problem i have..anyways; i heard i need to remove the 40 pin connector throught the engine compartment from the firewall. then come in through the inner left wheel well and remove the top and bottom nuts that hold the computer in the firewall....and then slide the computer out from the wheel well...is this right?...any other way i can get to the computer or chip!?

chip removal

If you need to clean the connections, yes you need to remove the emergency brake assy. and take the wheel well cover halfway off to get at the pcm. jcab

pcm removal

The emergency break is in the way of access for the chip for removal. And the pcm will be removed from the engine compartment, after the wheel well cover is removed. jcab

yes!!

IF YOU WANT TO CLEAN THE CONNECTIONS, YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE PCM, IF YOU JUST WANT TO PUT CHIP BACK ON, YOU WON'T HAVE TO.
