Spare tire carrier

I want to move the spare tire from the bed to under the gas tank in the rear. I found on ebay auction # 8039556809. Anybody know if this is what I need to do that? The truck is a f100 1977.

Save your money. If the gas tank is a standard OEM tank, not the expanded capacity aftermarket tank you can find the parts you want laying around in many salvage yards for next to nothing.

im not sure you you can move the spare to under the truck. if your 77 f100 is a short box 2wd, with the stock tank between the frame rails, behind the the rear diff. i cannot relocate mine there on my 79 f100 2wd shortbox. just simply because of the fuel tank location.thats why they put the spare in the box i guess.i cant comment on the long box trucks .-billy

Question

im curious as to how you get a factory spare tire carrier under the truck, when the factory fuel tank is located in the stock location where the tire would normally be? i dont see how you can do it with out moving the tank.

The spare goes under the tank unless the tank is a deep tank. A shortbox may have a deep tank tho. I have not worked on one of those for years. My 78 regular box has the spare right under the tank.

My 77 F150 4x4 longbed came with the spare under the tank behind the axle but I removed it. After I lifted the truck it just didnt look right seeing the tire hanging down, and I didnt want it to get caught on something offroad.

thats what i was thinking too. the spare hanging down under a fuel tank on an f100 2wd would be almost dragging on the ground.im thinking that they did not install them there at the factory. i have not personally ever seen a f100 2wd with the spare under the tank. thats not to say that it was never done, ive just never seen one.

I think anythings better than the spare mounted on the front bumper. Thats just flat out ugly, IMO.

It was factory under the tank in the rear on most trucks.
