Sell me on a CB/antenna combo
Okay, the story is, I have some extra cash (say $200) from an unnamed source (lol) and I am looking to install a CB into my truck. Problem is, I know NOTHING about them or the antennas.
What features/options should I look for? What brands are well trusted? and throw out a couplea do's and dont's. I will be doing everything myself. I want to have a decent range (5 miles i guess would be pretty good, at least for when I'm in the middle of nowhere up north).
Remember I know nothing, not even terms. So use the terms so i can learn what they mean, and then clue me in so I'll know what you're saying.
Thanks!
Matt

well i use a cobra 19, with a 4.5ft. frances antenna. and i like it alot the radio is about 4x6inches in size. it dont have any fancy ***** or any thing but it works great for me. and i have an 18ft coacable) for the antenna. i did sell it and i got a cobra 29 classic, had it peaked/ tuned for what the guy said would help the range of the radio and i sold that 29, and bought my old 19 back. it just works great for me, some dont like the radio b-cuz of what ever reason but i do. the 19 cost about $35-$49, the 29 cost about $115-$129, the cable is $15, the antenna about $20. just my 2 cents!!(sorry for such a long answer)

$200 can buy quite a bit. A decent radio with a modern design is the Midland 79-290. It has a detachable faceplate and all the features you'll ever need. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282
For an antenna I would order a Radial-Larsen NMO-27B. This is a great antenna that is easy to tune and is designed to receive the weather radio that is built into many of todays cb's.

Would like info on CB radios and antennas Wilson I heard are good but I have clearance problems in my 9' x 7' door in my garage. I would like a antenna that would get the weather signal also the radio I am looking at is the Cobra Classic with weather and the night screen. A window antenna like cell phone would be nice but do they work as well as the other antennas? Looking for information on this topic? 2005 SD 4X4 V10 Reg cab Also hint on mounting locations would be interested. Thanks.
