100000 Mile Shop Work

I have been lurking here picking up info so I thought I would post some stuff to start off the new year. Just some comments, a question, and a couple of pictures.

1. Only took me 4.5 hours to change plugs! Wooo hooo. Some of the old ones were pretty dirty and corroded. Picture included.

2. I changed both my front differential and transfer case fluid. The diff fluid looked brand new while the transfer case fluid looked burnt and smelled horrible. Is it typical for the MERCON in the transfer case to be really used up at 100000 miles?

3. I found a curly que in my brake line. This shortened the line and put some unneeded stress on the line at full suspension travel. The previous owner must have picked a bad mechanic somewhere along the line. It took 20 minutes and a 1/2" wrench to fix that!

Whats the plug gap after 100,000 miles?

Maybe I'll change my plugs at 60'000 miles.

Plug gap

I did measure each plug. The average was 0.064". The largest was 0.067". All the wear seemed to be on the "tang" not on the electrode. I put Autolite APP764 Double Platinum plugs back in. I am hoping the platinum on the "tang" will keep the gap better. I run them in my Contour and Mustang as well.

All in all 20% gap creep in 100000 might not be that bad.

The truck does seem to pull better and does not drop out of OD as quick on an incline.
