Just purchesed a new to me 01' Excursion limited 4x4 with the 7.3 psd. My problem is when I go to start the truck I get the theft light in the middle of the tachometer starts blinking really fast. The truck will just crank over and thats it, no start. This can occur as much as twenty times in a rowe, or it may never happen in a whole day(starting 5 to 10 times the whole day). When I say in a rowe I mean cycling the key from off to on. I know when it works correctly because the theft light comes on w/out blinking for a matter of a few seconds wile Im waiting for the grow plugs to do there thing. Most of the time I just keep cycling when it messes up and it takes quite a few times, but always comes around and starts. I was given 2 keys with the truck neither of them have Ford written on them. At first I thought I had a problem with the chip in the key, because when I switched keys the problem went away for about 3 days. Now both keys are giving me problems if they are the problem. The keys I have say Strattec on them in place of were Ford would be on the factory key. Hope that was enough to get you guys a pretty good idea of whats going on. i didn't think the X ever had a PATS system?

 

Ford390 what does PATS stand for. The X has keyless entry, but I was not given a code for the drivers door keypad or a keyless entry fob. I cant see why not having any of these would cause this problem.
