I've asked them at least 4 times in another post of mine and still haven't got a "firm" answer yet? I've heard on the 56, that the VIN# is stamped somewhere on the frame but, what about the 55??? Is it on the frame as well? If not, I may be screwed on this purchase I'm about to make? Thanks, Jason

Data plate? Is that the same as the VIN or serial # that is on the glove box doors? I've never heard of something being on the door back that old. Now, on the newer vehicles, yeah, I've seen it there.

Hello Donald here. The VIN on the frame is located on the right(passenger side) frame rail about midway back toward the cab. Basically if you had wheels on the front of the frame. Look on the top side of the passenger frame rail just above or maybe a little behind the tire. The Data plate can lead to a lot of the same information as the VIN will give you. So they are the same somewhat sorta kinda

Merlynr that is on a 56 only. The data plate on a slant cab 53-55 is on the on the glove box door

 

The VIN should be stamped on the top of the frame rail on the passenger side just in front of the firewall.

 

According to my "red book", the data plate there on a 55 also.

 

I have only seen the '53-'55 on the inside of the glove box for the rating plate, and the passenger side frame rail any where between the front crossmember and the front cab mount wing, most have been between the axle and the crossmember though. The rating plate was not affixed to the door pillar until 56. There are a few books that say the '53-'56 were on the door pillar, however the factory did not attach them there until the 56 model year. The '53-'55 rating plate location (unless modified) is the back side of the glove box door.

 

On the glove box door is the only place I have ever seen the data plate for a slant cab, 53-55' F100. You are right WM if it is anyplace else the Ford Factory did not put it there.

 

It doesn't matter now, since I'm not getting the truck....
