I have a 1989 Ranger SC with 5 spd Trans. I'd like to swap with a 4.0 with possible trans. switch with it (engine and tranny are worn out) I'm fairly good at mechanical work, I just need to know if it's a good and easy swap OR are there nightmares involved. Thanks
Tim
I would switch the engine and tranny if the tranny's worn out, might as well. Since the 4.0L is a stroker 2.9L, I would bet this is a very straightforward no nonsense swap.
Your best bet is to grab everything from the donor, including motor, tranny, computer and all sensors, air intake and MAF assembly, everything. Depending on the year of the donor (pre '95 I believe), there may be a seperate EDIS module.
