pros and cons of electronic ignition conversion

im starting to get stuff set up for my 1976 ford f-250 4x4, and among other things, it needs a new engine, ive already decided to go with a 390, and i know that trucks of this age use points ignition, my question is what are the advantages and disadvantages of electronic ignition vs. points, and is it worth the conversion? if so, where would i find the best kit? thanks.

unless you go with a cheap duraspark box. (from say, autozone). They burn out like mad. If you go MSD right away, or whatever your favorite brand is, aside from the prices there is nothing to regret.

get the pertronix ignitor and there coil. The total for both will be under 100$. Its a module that replaces your points, in your stock distributor. I have it and its great. You can get some info on it at:

www.pertronix.com

Or you can get it from ebay like i did, just type in 'pertronix ford'

Brian if your truck is a 76 it should have electronic ignition already 75 was the first year there shold be a box on the drivers side inner fenderwell with two plugs one has two wires and goes into the wire loom in to the cab and the other with four wire goes across the fire wall to the top of the engine and to the distributor if your truck dosen't have it you can use a factory dist. and convert it to electronic Hayes manuels have the complete wiring diagram for the ignition happy hunting
