46637 air filter

I've seen in this forum a wix 46637 air filter. what is this. I looked in to my Carquest filter online accout it shows a large round filter with a 4" connection is this some kind of home made higer cfm air filter. I have a stock 97 psd will it hurt if i add this without any type of higer flow exhaust (i.e. higher exh. temp.)

ok heres the deal

option 1.
i half azzed this setup initially and it greatly affected my performance. truck ran much higher egts, lower boost and was really a dog.
what you dont see in this picture is a pvc pipe that had an o.d. of 4" and it was about 4" long. 2" inside of filter and 2" inches inside of black hose.
thius makes the hose have to be bent a little and close to the motor. sucking hotter air. also what you dont see is i didnt have the little air box piece installed.

option 2 done the right way.

items required
4" 45* elbow. (needs to be cut down some) can be bought at airflodotcom.
a constant torques or t-bolt clamp for the filter.
the filter obviosly which is very cheap at fleetfilter.com(sponsor)
i put a little higg temp rtv on there also for the heck of it.
and the stock air box induction thing. gets cooler air to the filter.
it works great now. none of the previous problems i had exist. i am curious as to how my next blackstone oil analysis will be.

Smile 6637 filter installation

I just installed mine tonight. I installed it onto the intake hose and laid it in the area where the stock box went. I will reinstall the original intake in the morning before a drive to the airport, 60 miles away. So far so good, but I may adjust the way it was suggested with the 45 pipe and the such. More to follow.

I was hoping for the same, but I had already done the open exhaust, so the turbo only picked up a little. Better throttle response though!
