351w bolt pattern(bellhousing)

I need to replace my 351w(5.8 liter) in my 1985 f-150 but am having trouble finding a motor to bolt up to my c6 bellhousing! I heard that a 302 would work but cant find one with same bellhousing bolt pattern. How many different bolt patterns are there on the 351w or 302 block?

Are you sure it is a 351W? I think there is a slight possibility of it being a 351M, which has a big block bolt pattern. All the small blocks (300, 302, 351W, 351C, etc.) should have the same transmission bolt pattern.

Unless you happen to get hold of an old 221, 260, or early 289 with the 5-bolt bellhousing!

But other than that I think Eric's on the right track, you probably have a 351M which limits your choices to the 400, 429 or 460.

Only one. The 351W and 302 bolt patterns have never changed.

The top two bolts on a 305/351W are only 5" apart...more like 5 and a fraction so it sounds like you do have a 351W. The 351M has them much further apart.
