2001 Ranger - Spark plug wire removal

I have a 2001 ranger with a 2.3L (122,000) miles. I'm having a hard time removing the spark plug wires. I tried using a convention boot puller but had no luck. I've changed the wires on my Bronco easily with the same boot puller. Is there a different puller that I should be using? Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Welcome to FTE!!!!

If they have been on there for 122k they might be really stuck. When I did my 3.0 plugs, 42k, they were stuck on pretty good, I just stuck with it until I got the correct angle and then it wasn't to bad.

I replace my plugs quite a bit, about every oil change. If there are 122K on them, it's time to go ahead and overhaul them anyways. New plugs and wires time. Just keep working it, it'll come free eventually.

How often do you change your oil?

I didn't even know there was a special spark plug wire remover tool. It must be some thing that the parts department insists you need. I've always just grabbed and pulled. If i'm reusing the wires i'm gentle but i almost never pull the wires without replacing them.
I replace my plugs and wires every 50k and change my oil every 3k.
Thats dude that replaces his plugs every oil change must have some serious ring problems and is plugging them up.
122k is a long time to go without replacing the plugs and wires. I noticed a difference in my truck when i changed them at less them half that milege. After 122k it probably feel like you put a new motor in.
The old engine i had in my chevy truck had a crack in the block between 2 of the cylinders and i didn't have the money to replace the motor for about a month. I had to replace 2 of the spark plugs and add a quart of oil every 400 miles. That sucked but it limped along just fine. If i waited too long and fouled up the plugs it had a mean mis fire and ran like crap.
