The bearings are in the hub. It is a complete unit. You have to replace the whole hub. I have burned up 3 hubs in 170k. I paid $376 for each unit from ford. When the first one went at 70k I almost lost a wheel!

powerstrokeshop.com sells complete kits for $295
That includes the bearing plus the O-rings, seals, nuts, etc to do a "by the book" replacement.
There is an excellent writeup either on this site or on dieselstop.com about doing the bearing change. We'll all be doing it sooner or later

GB04,

If you can afford the time to do it - you can pull it apart - get seal and bearing numbers and fix each side your self for probably $50. each. You can knock the bearing out and replace them. Be sure to lub and/or replace the needle bearing cartridge that supports the axle shaft at the end of the housing.

If you get it apart please post the part numbers here. You would be my hero!

Thanks for all the suggestions on replacing my bearings.
I went with the "complete rebuild" kit from powerstrokeshop.com.
It came with the bearing hubs, ball joints, studs, o-rings, nuts and seals.
It set me back $780 with shipping, but I figure if I am going to take it apart I may as well do everything. The ball joints have 70K on them and the worst bearing has 120K on it.
This should keep me rolling trouble free (knock on wood) for the next few years.

Bearing and Seal Info??

Any way that we can get the info on the bearings and seals etc so we can post the commercially available parts numbers.

Are you doing the replacements yourself?? Can you beat apart one of the hubs and post pictures and part numbers?? Will you send me a hub and I will take it apart and post pictures and part numbers. I will volunteer to pay the UPS Ground shipping to me in Knoxville,Tn
