Angry Squeeky Dust Shields?????

Now this is the funniest thing I've heard in a while.

My buddies wife tells him that she hears a squeek in the front of the truck, when she put it in 4WD. Sounded like it was coming from the left front hub area.

Sooooooo, she brings it to the dealer to get looked at. She picks it up later and they tell her that she had a squeeky brake dust shield and they lubed it.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm in Afghanistan and can't go look at my truck (boooo hooo), but the dust shield doesn't move and that would mean something is rubbing against it. And like I said, it only does it in 4WD.

Apparently the squeek went away, but that still means something is rubbing.

Any thoughts?

She probably had a plugged grease zerk on the inner portion of the shield? You've never seen them down there?
Sounds funny to me too!

Well there could be a comunication problem because there is a dust shield on the back of the wheel bearing hub ,that the front axle goes through. They do dry out and squeak.
but usually by the time they squeak they have worn out. They are their to help keep the dirt and moisture out of the wheel bearing area.

I just get a kick out of some of the things that the dealerships tell folks that they think don't understand anything. Especially, and I'm not being sexist here, what they will tell women. It's almost comic, until they try to pull stuff over on my wife. She's usually right them when I'm turning a wrench and is by no means stupid when it comes to vehicles. It pretty funny to watch grown men shake at the dealship when she goes off. Hehehe!

I have the same issue with my '08 F350, I just spray some penetrate around the axle and that solves the problem, but only temporary.

Nice resurrection of an 11 year old post!
At any rate, I hope that BFR250SD is home safe by now, and thanks for your service!
