Looking for warranty as mine will expire soon....any thoughts?
Hello everyone I’m a newbie here and a proud owner of a 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer. I still have about 7000mi left on my factory warranty and was wondering if anyone had any information about purchasing a warranty when this one expires. I hear you can purchase them through the dealer and they are negotiable. Is that true? Anyone know of any good after-market warranties or ones to stay away from? Any thoughts?
I'm probably in the market for a full coverage warranty as this thing is loaded with gadgets.

Ford ESPs are negotiable...but then again, so is everything else in the world.
The best aftermarket warranty (or the one with the best reputation) is Warranty Direct.

Personally, I dont trust any of those aftermarket warranties. I've heard so many horror stories about them. When the warranty was up on my 98 Expe EB, I just decided to take my chances. I did buy an extended warranty for the wife's 00 Caravan for $1500 and haven't had any problems with that vehicle. So I think I should have just not spent the money. Bottom line is you'll have to decide for yourself if you think you really need it or not.

I look at it as an insurance policy. At 26000 I had to have the ring and opinion in the rear-end replaced. That alone would have equaled the cost of most warranties. I take my chances too. I did it on my Nissan and haven’t had any problems. At the very least I would prefer a power train warranty. There are so many gadgets on this vehicle I just fear something is bound to go out when it off warranty.

1 Source Auto Warranty
I have personally had very good luck with 1 Source Auto Warranty. They have covered several items on more than one vehicle that I have had covered through them. They also refund (pro-rate) the policy if you sell the vehicle. The internet is the best place to buy - but when you do need to talk to someone, they are very helpful. Best part is when you have a claim - the shop calls 1 Source, and 1 Source gives a credit card right over the phone for the charge. (Note - the shop has to call prior to doing the work.) I have never had a claim denied. The local dealer here says that 1 Source is easier to work with than Chrysler or Ford for warranty repairs. Give them a try.
