Help and advice purchasing 97 F150 5.4L 4x4

Guys,
Looking to purchase a 97 F150 4x4. Are there any typical problems with these models? What kind of gas mileage do they get? Any idea how many miles I can get out of the 4.6/5.4? I've found a couple good looking ones down here in florida. Should I be looking at a different year? I'd like to keep the price under 9 or 10k. I'm moving to colorado this fall thanks to uncle sam so I'd like to park the stang for a while and get a truck again....

thanks for your advice,
Larry

I have a 97 150 and have had no problems with it. It has been a great truck. My gas milage is not that great only because of the set up I have but as far as reliability, it is the best truck I have ever owned.

Cool... Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. I really like the trucks, just want some different views... Anyone else for or against?

I could be wrong, but I think the '97's were only offered with a 4.6L. It seems like the 5.4L didn't become available until '98, unless the '97 was an F-250 LD. Again, I could be wrong, anybody else with input?

Good truck, they can take a beating. I've got '97 xlt reg cab 4x4. Mileage somewhere around 16 dont know for sure b/c speedo and such are off cause of bigger tires, pretty good mileage though, made 4hr trip down to beach on one tank. No outrageous probs with my truck, most of the probs i have had are caused by my offroad exursions. Obviously more recent model the better, '97 had more kinks in it becasue it was the first yr for that body style. Dont get me wrong still a great truck. I offroad hard, tow hard and it still goin strong. 110K. Figure I can make to 200K easy.

I am looking at a 1997 150 lariat here in MI.. I think it has the V6, it also has a manual 5 speed ad 4wd, and long bed... single cab... How good of gas mileage would it get? 18-22mpg?

Mine is '97, 5.4, 4x4... door cracks, ball joints, front brakes and tires in 82k miles is it, I do have a pesky CEL like everyone else too. I like the truck and will keep it a long time.
