Question Best Alarm For Your Ford?

Got a Question. I bought a rattler alarm a year ago and when I got around to installing it it wouldn't turn off, figure that one out. So I gave up hope on it and figured I lost a hundred dollars. If you know what I did wrong let me know.

Now to my question. What is the best alarm to put in a Ford Bronco? All makes and models will be considered. Also can you list some of the fetures that you guys like about yours and the costs?

Thanks in advance.

Brian

Anything by DEI (like the rattler) is pretty good, but the critical part is the installation.

Ok, so I already have a DEI alarm that looked like a good deal but what happened to it?

Like I said, installation is the key. Are you sure everything was wired correctly? Sometimes you need additional relays that are not included, depending on what features you use. I'm not trying to say that you didn't install it correctly, it might have just been a bad unit. For an alarm, I let a good shop install it for me.

I've found that a 120 lb. Rottweiler that sleeps in the back seat works pretty well...especially if you keep him a little hungry.

I've got a Viper 550 alarm/remote start (made by DEI). I also have the rear window controlled from the remote with a current sensor. When the draw is too high, such as when the window is all the way open or shut it kills the power to it. In order to roll it down you hit the aux and while holding it down hit the panic button briefly. to roll it up just push and hold the aux. When released the window stops moving. In addition to this i also installed a pin switch on the rear tailgate so if anyone opens the rear tailgate with the alarm armed, it will trigger it just like if either of the two front doors were opened. (this is needed since the dome light is not triggered from the tailgate). I also installed a second alarm siren on the driver side of the radiator support hidden and tucked out of the way so the wire to it can not be cut to silence it. I also modified the original siren to only play the first of the 7 alarm sounds, so i have a distinct alarm sound as the second alarm cycles through the other 7 alarms. I also cut the 6dB gain wire on both sirens which increases the chirp sound when locking/unlocking. It is the loudest car alarm i have ever heard. It can be heard VERY far away.

The problem with this DEI unit is that thier instructions were not clear at all and their tech support website would not allow me to log on.

If the point of the alarm is not to have the vehicle stolen, then put a 4 wheel hydraulic lock on the truck www.brakelock.com coupled with an alarm. Except for their siren which does not work well in slushy NE weather (can crack from freezing water), I liked the alarms from www.autolock.com. The instructions and color coding are well laid out and most of the relays needed are already inside the brain. Plus, it is set up to work with the Ford power door locks and windows without extra relays or wiring.
