Different color coolants

I have a 2003 250 superduty cc with the v10 that has the gold color coolant in it. I ordered this vehicle new. I rescently purchased a used 2002 Expedition and the coolant in it is the green color. My question is when did Ford switch to the gold coolant or do they just use that coolant for certain vehicles and the rest get the standard green coolant. I am try to determine if the person who had this Expedition before was horsing around with the coolant or thats just the way they come. Hope that all makes sense.

Thanks
Wes

CAUTION: Engine coolant provides freeze protection, boil protection, cooling efficiency, and corrosion protection to the engine and cooling components. In order to obtain these protections, the engine coolant must be maintained at the correct concentration and fluid level in the degas bottle.

When adding engine coolant, use a 50/50 mixture of engine coolant and clean, drinkable water.

To maintain the integrity of the coolant and the cooling system:

NOTE: The addition of Motorcraft Cooling System Stop Leak Pellets, VC-6, darkens Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant from yellow to golden tan.
LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED MORE......

Add Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant VC-4-A (VC-5 in Oregon or CXC-10 in Canada) or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A (green color), or Motorcraft Premium Gold Coolant VC-7-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 (yellow color).
Do not add Motorcraft Specialty Orange Engine Coolant VC-2 or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M997B44-D. Mixing coolants may degrade the coolants corrosion protection.
Do not add alcohol, methanol or brine, or any engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanol antifreeze. These can cause engine damage from overheating or freezing.
Do not mix with recycled coolant unless it meets the requirements of Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A or WSS-M97B51-A1. Not all coolant recycling processes meet these Ford specifications. Use of such coolants may harm the engine and cooling system components.

Wes,
Expedition was converted from Green to Gold in July 2002. If you have a vehicle build date after July '02 you should have the Gold G-05.

all that information on what fluid to use is in the users manual that came with the truck. That's if you still have it.

Prestone no longer makes the standard green stuff anymore. they only make the extended and the "universal" that can be put in both the extended and the standard green stuff.......... THis almost forces the end user to buy their fluids from Ford
