Would it be better to re-power the 390.

Where would you find the block casting #s?

It would be nice to know exactly what breed of engine i have.
When i bought the pickup the guy i bought it from said it has a 1968 390 police intercepter,i was told Ford did not make a 390 p.i.in 68,would anybody know what engine it is if in fact its a 68 police intercepter? .


Also does anyone know what all i would have to change out to swap out a 390 for a 351w or would it be a total nightmare?
it is just a thought,because i have 76 e_350 van with a fresh 351w rebuild,that was given to me.

You can find more 390 engine info in the FE engine forum.

The 351W engine will not bolt up to your transmission. Accessory brackets will not fit.

 

do you have a 4 spd transmission or an automatic? the manual 4 spds you can change the bellhousing, otherwise you would need the towers and engine mounts for the 351w.

There are casting numbers all over that engine.
Block,heads,intake & exhaust manifolds.
Just write them down & post them to this thread,
you will later find it in the FE engine series forum.
