I did the recall on an Expedition today at the dealership I work at. We are to unplug the connector, tape it up to keep dirt etc out of it and tie-strap it to keep it from dangling. New switches are supposed to be out in April so you'll have no cruise until then.
There is a thread in the 97-03 F-150 forum about this too.

I had the dealer unplug the switch on our '98 Expy yesterday. He was adament that the recall didn't affect our year vehicle, but I told him that our next door neighbor's '98 burned to the ground last Sunday night. Our neighbors CC had stopped working a few days prior. Regardless what the company line is, we're not taking any chances.
Any tips out there on a rework for this issue?? Faulty switch or not, it makes no sense for the switch to be hot at all times while sitting in flammable liquid...

03-04 switch
As far as I can tell the 03 and 04's are different. On my 04 there is no switch on the master cylinder like on the 02 and older. It looks like the switch operated on pressure of the brake fluid when the pedal was depressed. I wonder if the brake fluid caused the switch to stick in the on position ( contacts closed) on some vehicles thus causing it to over heat. I have no answer other that I looked at mine yesterday and can't find it under the hood. I could be under the dash and works like a micro switch

It's actually exactly like playing russian roulette, albeit with slightly better odds.
As Jay Leno once said about the Explorer, "Hey, forget Chevrolet, we've got the REAL Blazer!"
Having said all that, I will be taking a look at mine tonite. Sounds like the problem, as far as the vehicle catching fire quickly, is the proximity of the switch to the brake fluid.

Anyone know what's up with the recall being just the 2000 F150 & Expy.
I have a 2000 F150 company truck. Read about the recall, checked the forum and diconeccted the connector today.
The wife just came home with our 2001 Expedition.
Looks like the exact same switch??
Anybody know why this one would be different?
