Yeah found this posted here in another thread

TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers

SUBJECT: ADVANCE NOTICE: DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD: Safety Recall 07S49:
Certain 2008 F-250/350/450/550 Vehicles Equipped with a 6.4L Diesel Engine
Powertrain Control Module Recalibration

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 2008 F-250/350/450/550 vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine, built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from Job #1 through March 9, 2007. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership, visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com. This information will be available on March 21, 2007.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

To prevent the occurrence of excessive heat in the exhaust system or potential flame from the tailpipe, a revised PCM calibration is being developed.

SERVICE ACTION

DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any of the affected vehicles involved in this safety recall. A new PCM calibration is being developed as described above. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided on Friday March 23, 2007 or as soon as the PCM recalibration software and repair instructions are available to support this safety recall.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of record will be notified via first-class mail after repair instructions have been provided to dealers.

OASIS

Consult OASIS for affected vehicles. FSA VIN listings for unsold vehicles will be available March 21, 2007.

PLEASE NOTE:

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $5,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery

Holy crap...so nobody noticed this during testing? They now have to write new code for it? I smell 6.0L fiasco "part duex".

On another note, however, flames from the tailpipe would be oh so cool! Think: straight pipes out the back and someone tailgating.

Well I'm a little confused. In the article, they said "Jarvis said the flames could only occur in engines with leaking fluids, which he said was very rare. Two of the complaints involved leaking fuel injectors and the other involved leaks coming from a crack in the turbocharger shaft.". And the fix is to "The automaker will have dealers upgrade software for the powertrain control module, which will power down the engine under higher-than-expected temperatures in the diesel particulate filter." So, instead of fixing the leaking fluids, they upgrade the PCM to power down the engine!!??!! Am I missing something!?!

A software change is cheap. Fixing the real problem could be expensive.

The software upgrade is only to keep DPF temps down IF something goes wrong and extra fuel gets dumped in, then you take it to the dealer to get it repaired. Same idea if your furnace motor craps out, the overtemp sensor shuts the fuel supply off to the furnace so it does not overheat and start a fire.

I went to my local dealer today to claim my Basketball (one of those mailings where I'm "guaranteed to win.....". Anyway, I asked about the new '08's, and mentioned the recall. The salesman said "There's no recall on these". I said "yes there is...it's all over the news and web.". He said "There's no recall on the new SuperDuty's". I said "Yes there is". Soooooo, I kinda lost faith in that dealer already. Or for sure, that salesman. Very young guy, but still..........

edjunior, just remember Ford Dealers haven't exactly had a love afair with the recently departed 6.0 that was supposed to be an improved PSD. Most of the salemen at your local friendly Ford Dealer don't have the first clue about the PSD line other than they're nosiey engines. I'm still holding onto my dollars until the 6.4 gets some miles on it before I walk into Mr. Martin's dealership to order my next oil burner.

it is my understanding, the ones on our lot have been reprogrammed already and are ready for sale. reprogramming started the day after the recall.
