Can anyone tell me if a fuel tank for a Bronco will fit where the rear tank is on my 1993 F-350 without any modications? Will I need to change the fuel pump or will it be ok?

the diesel's don't have fuel pumps in the tanks. i don't guess it would hurt anything to go ahead and hook it up, you may find that ir runs better on the back tank with the fuel ump hooked u, as for fit, i do not know. i am sure you would have to use a different strap because the bronco tank is deeper than a truck tank."i would imagine" anyways. get the trusty measuring tape out and ark bronco-ickup side by side and look and look again.

 

wait, diesels don't have fuel pumps? then what "pumps" the fuel? the injector? now i know i'm still a newbie haha, aleast i'm still learning alot.

 

the good ol' lift pump on the motor, just like in the old days with carbs...

 

i said "in the fuel tank", i didn't say no fuel pump at all. but i always thought about putting an electric one in the tank to see if it boosted horsepower any. i think i saw my guage hit 5 psi one time and the motor just unleashed its *****. i dunno, it was running kinda funny that day alltogether, that's why i was watching my f.p. guage. but i think if you had about 5-6 psi constant that it would make a lot more h.p. have you ever felt a difference in power due to a new fuel filter?? same kinda thing. they are designed to run a steady 4psi. just a thought on increades f.p. and would be easy to do using a fuel tank with a ump alredy in it, just hook up a wire, connect the fuel lines and go. does the bronco tank have a return line? you will need one for the diesel.

if the pump in the tank were the only pump for a gas injection system, first, the pressure on the gassers with one pump is in the range of 35 psi, and second, the heavier fuel may be the demise of the pump, that I'm not sure on. My father runs his with the electric pump mounted right by the tank switch, and it helps out when the fuel pulls a drain back, or if it were to be run dry. You have to be sure to get one that can run diesel through it though. So an electric can be done, just be sure it is done right. I'm not sure raising the supply pressure will matter much, as the injection pump still meters the fuel rate and pressures. Constant supply is key though.

the broncos had a low pressure pump in the tank, and a high pressure pump in the framerail. i converted a fuelie into a carbureted one time and that's what i was thinking of.i hooked the tank pump straight to the carburetor. i do not know how a gas pump would do in a diesel fuel environment, but it may be worth a try to hook the electric pump right into the manual fuel pump in order to get a little more pressure out of it, just because noone has ever tried it and nobody thinks it works doesn't mean it doesn't. the electric bronco tank pump only puts out about 3-5 psi. if anything else, it will get you home when your filter is plugged up and you need an extra 1 or 2 psi for enough fuel to run. i have had that problem before. then i cleaned my tanks and found a bunch of plastic pieces, dirt, and about 5 gallons of water in the tanks. i am seroius and not understating 5 gallons of water. i was draining my water separator every few hours of running or so. it would start poppin, skippin missin, and sometimes if everything was just perfect, it would take off like a scalded-*** ape..??? then very shortly after that, it would run REALLY bad and i would drain the water and it would be fine for a little while. i am going to build a water injectoin system and see if that would do the same thing but be a little more controlled.

 

Sounds like you got a real bad tank of fuel... Water injection can be a real power adder whith the right metering. I never said the in tank pump won't work, but that it might not. Supposedly you aren't supposed to use 2 pumps, but personally, I can't see why, my old man has done it with his, albeit a cobble job, and I have done it on gassers in a pinch, and everything worked out ok... Also, supposedly the diesel will take the galvanizing off, not sure what to think about that, never heard that until more recently... The filter is after the mechanical pump, so the pressure valve in the mechanical pump still won't let it put any more pressure in the line, so I doubt that would make any difference when the filter is plugged up...
