Thump thump thump?

Quick question-
I locked the front hubs this morning but did not engage the 4wheel drive drove for approximatly 5-6 miles then suddenly I started to get thiss thump thump thump sound comming from the front end almost sounded like a flat tire (not the case) I pulled over and unlocked the hubs rolled along and still the same sound?does anyone have any ideas or have experieced the same thing?
Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Do you have manual hubs or auto?

Either way, the hub or hubs may not have disengaged properly. It sounds like you have a bearing out on one or both of the axles where it goes into the knuckle.

Did you give the axle a good shake at the u-joints to see if there was slack there?

What did you find out, JMACC?

I was wondering because you said you had manual hubs with the ESOF system.

When did you replace the factory hubs?

I bought the truck with the hubs in place, I also found that I picked up a 1/2 inch lag bolt with the washer dead smack in the center of the tire. Note of caution when this happens put your spare on as soon as possible, I waited untill the next morning tire had gone down a little I aired it up was going down to the local tire shop to have it fixed -halfway there the lag bolt flew out and the tire went down immediatley drove about 100 yards to a side street and completely ruined a brand new BFG all terrain. It was a $220.00 morning. Moral of the story" Never take the easy way out do it right the first time"
