Unhappy Ranger to running to rich.

i own a 1987 ford ranger. it has a 2.9L fuel injection hooked up to a 5 speed manual transmission. there is quite abit of emission junk on it and it seems to running quite rich. my father and i can unplug abunch of little computer chips and such and it will run a little better but it will still idle at like 1400 rpm. my grandpa thinks that its the fuel pressure regulator, but me and my dad dont think so. like i said earlier it idles high and runs incredibly rich. if you have any info plz tell me. thanx.

Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and check for raw gas. If there is, then replace the regulator....

If there is no fuel in the vac line of the fuel pressure regulator then it is probably fine. Click https://www.ford-trucks.com/lc/lc.ph...9x/EECIVQT.pdf and follow the instructions. (this is what ken was refering to)

i have the same problem...or at least i did until i cleaned out the idle air control valve (air bypass valve) ...its on the side of the upper intake manifold...only 2 bolts....it worked but now it occasionally idles too low...but thAT was the problem so if you pay the 75 dollars for a new one you should be all set
