How does a fuel injected engine run rich? My 1986 B2 XLT is acting like it's getting too much fuel and flooding out, but it just does it every now and then. Please help me figgure this one out before I park it at the bottom of the river. I had previously had issues with the coil but I think they were caused by corroded connections, because the coil checked out fine.
Check your vacume line off your fuel presure regulator , if you see fuel or smell it, possible the diapharm is leaking which will start to flood your engine via your vacume lines. See 87b2 cases in this form over the last 7-10 days. I started out with a bad egr, throttle postioner, fuel pressure regulator, ecu unit ,& fuel injector. Hopefully this is the final fix. Have a look at the replies i got they might help you out.
Thanks, I have been reading the other post and have already checked for fuel or fuel smell in the vaccume line. There does not appear to be any. Might the FPR still be bad?
You might want to swap in a used unit out of junker, I know a fpr rebuilt one was going to cost me $180.00 ,the used unit was
$ 6.99. Check your code with a reader if you have one. Your throttle position rsensor may be shot, just like running a carb with a stuck choke butterfly. You may want to check your injectors to make sure they are working good too. I am speaking as a result of whats happening with my 87b2.
I don't have a code reader. But I would like to get one how much are they and where do I get one? Also where is my throttle position sensor? I cleaned my IAC already, but I still don't know all the ins and outs of the EFI system yet.
You don't need a code reader to read codes, a jumper wire and an analog voltmeter or test light will do the same thing (see www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html ).
If the FPR diaphragm isn't leaking, test the fuel pressure. It may not be opening causing the fuel pressure to be too high. Fuel pressure test procedures and specifications can be found in any good manual, or check the vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com
