where can i find a 390
Ok, I am looking for a running 360 or 390 to get me by for a while till I get enough money to rebuild. I am going to a couple of yards to see if I can find one this weekend. I was just wondering if anybody could tell me what car/truck models the FE motors were common in so I know where to look besides the 70's pickups.
I want an FE for now because it will be a direct bolt in. Looking to get one for a good price since I am trying to save for the rebuild. thanks in advance.
I am sure this has been talked about before so I apoligize if this is redundant. I tried a search but couldn't come up with anything.

I don't know exactly what cars came equipped with the 360/390 but I'm pretty sure the Galaxies did. The FE came around in the 60's. Some Mustangs had them. Look for 5 valve cover bolts. The trucks had them until the middle to late 70's. I just did a google search using "ford 390" and came up with some Mustangs, Ranchero, trucks. I'm gathering that any old Ford could have one, either stock or aftermarket. Maybe even some jeeps aftermarket. Do an Ebay search using "ford 390", there's all kinds of vehicles listed with 390's. Good luck in finding one that's running.

Car availability started in 59 and trucks saw them in 65, they were available in cars till 71 and trucks till 76. The full size cars and wagons had them as options as well as late 60's Mustangs and Cougars (doubt you will find one of these in the yard though). The 4x4 trucks were equipted with 360's so look for a 4x2 F250 in mid-70's for possible 390's.

Galaxies, Fairlanes, Even some old wagons had FE engines. Tbirds Mustangs and Cougars. Some of the Ford LTD's police cars were FE's way back when around 68 and earlier. Hope you have some good yards around you. Here in CT it's hard to find an 80's part no less anything 60's. Junkyards have turned into scrap yards here and most cars are stripped of the sellable parts, scrapped and cubed. Parts are stored on shelves with little numbers on them for inventory. There are a few yards that have cars but they don't last long. If nothing off the car sells it's scrapped after a few months. I miss romping through the mud and teetering on a car ontop of another to get a needed part. They have taken the fun and adventure out of things here for sure...G.

I agree with FFR428 CT has little to offer in junkyards I had to get a stock rear sump oil pan from California !
A word of caution 1965(4) and older cars have a different motor mount bosses that is not to say you cant get them to work , but it may require you to do some modifications . Also the 1964 cars have generators not alternators .
Just something to think about .
