bigger gas tank for 1998 ranger?
Nobody makes larger tanks for your Ranger. There would not be enough sales to pay anyone to tool up a few tanks. If you want to consider adding a bed mounted transfer fuel tank that would be one way to increase your fuel capacity. You would have to transfer fuel from the tank into your vehicle tank. Remember you would be driving around with a bomb in the back of your bed. I would probably take my chances with the local gas and maybe carry a spare fuel filter and some tools.

Bummer, but at least now I can stop looking.

I do NOT want to do this for exactly the reason you describe.

I'll definitely use the local Pemex. The problem is I get around 200 miles/tank (I think, I just bought the truck) and there is a stretch where there is NO gas station for 250 miles. So I'll have to carry at least 10 gals to provide any sort of margin of safety.
Thanks for the info.

The standard tank on a 98 is 16.6 gallons, for the 3.0. I don't think it's any bigger for the 4.0.
Victour, you're getting 20 mpg? in a 4.0? I have a 98 3.0 4x4 and I only get about 16 mpg city, about 18-19 on the highway. gives me about 250-260 miles/tank city. please tell me what you are doing to your engine to get 20 mpg! I put injector cleaner in every other tank, change my own oil every 5000 mi., and keep my engine very clean and still don't get that kind of performance. Is your truck a 4x4?

Yes the 20 gal tank was a option on the reg Cab 4x2. When I first got the Truck I added the K&N airfilter. I don't know if that made a diff. or not When I set the cruise control on the interstate at 65 and not have to slow down I can average 19 to 21 miles per gal. My 87 Full size Bronco Averaged 11 miles per gal. City or interstate and my 1994 full size Bronco I was able to get 16 on the interstate. so I don't know what makes the diff. I Run Hitest in the Ranger Which I believe Helps......
