Wanted:tips on how spare tire installed under

I Know this may be obvious to you all, BUt I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out this tire gets mounted under my 53

I have the spare tire bracket and 1, 7" long bolt With a "u" with holes through the "u", and 1 nut for the bolt--- and thats it.....

I always driven with the spare in the bed, But know I finally want it under the truck.

Whey does the u bolt for the tire bolt have 2 holes near the end of the "u"

MAybe a picture would help me to figure how this all mounts up

I'm not sure if the '53 is the same as '52. My '52 has two bolts that hold the spare tire to the bottom of the frame. The bolts are in two pieces. The small eye-bolt, bolts to the bottom of the frame and the longer u-bolt connects to the eye-bolt with a clevis pin. The nut on the longer u-bolt holds the carrier up. I just added a photo to my gallery of the bolts (the threads are covered in masking tape). Hope this helps a little. ...Terry

Wow! thanks Terry! that looks like the same parts from my 53
thanks so much for the helpful picture and info

I do have the small eyebolt is on the frame on the back of the frame drivers side

the tire holder frame the a notch cut in it on one side only ---i assume to slide into the eyebolt there..

there is a hole drilled in the other side of the tire holder....but where does this connect on the frame???

this is where i get lost

Todd
ps-a GREAT looking truck you have

The eye bolt should be fixed on the pass side about 24" in from the rear bumper. The "J" bolt attaches upside down in the last hole in the frame on the drivers side. The two holes in the "J" bolt arefor a cotter pin to prevent it from bouncing out of the frame.

I have one installed on my 56 and if needed I will take photos. Also the panel trucks mount the same way.

I'd like to see the pix too, either email or online, thanx!
Will that system still work with a trailer hitch installed?

A BIG thanx! Looks very similar to current pickup system, so I don't think I'll have too many problems finding the parts. I knew there must be a place for it other than bouncing around in the back of the panel. Now to solve the two different bolt pattern dilemma...

Snipa/Todd, I've put a photo in my gallery of the eye-bolt/u-bolt together as you requested. There is one of these bolts at each end of the spare tire carrier. You can use a bolt instead of a clevis pin if you can't find one, just leave a little play between the u-bolt and the eye-bolt. ...Terry
