Intermittent Starting
When I turn the ignition switch of my 1994 Explorer the electric fuel pump begins working just before I start the engine. This must be the design, because every time I hear the fuel pump, the engine fires right up. Other times I turn the switch and there is no sound indicating the fuel pump is working. When this happens, the truck will not start, though the engine turns. I find that if I remove the key or jiggle it, I can sometimes get it to start. Based on that, I had the ignition switch replaced but the problem persists.
It's been to the shop 3 times and they can't duplicate the problem. The fuel pump pressure checks out and there are no problems codes. What else could it be?
Help! I'm tired of getting stranded.
