rebuilding injectors question on 7.3 IDI

Is it possible to rebuild injectors on a 7.3 IDI motor yourself? I have white/blue smoke and am trying to isolate problems and correct them. There is also a rod like knock so I think at least 1 injector is stuck. Can I rebuild them myself? What is the best way to find out which is the bad one? Are there any kits and instructions on how to do it out there? Thanks for any help.

Unless you have an injector shop in your home shop then you probably cant do it. YOu can go to http://www.shopdiesel.com and order a new set for 200.00. I replaced my injectors and had to replace the fuel lines to get it to run good. It was puffing white smoke because of air in the lines and it had slow throttle response.

to find out which one's bad, run engine and crack one line loose at a time, you'll be able to hear a difference if you hit the bad one. if you have a local wrecker see if he has any core motors and try a used one. just to save alittle.

You typically notice a difference if you loosen a GOOD injector 'cause your engine will run rougher.

I went to the shopdiesel website and all I found were listings that showed around $200 per injector, not for a set. Am I looking in the wrong spot? I am looking at having to replace an injector on mine, so I am trying to find a good source. Thanks.

How do you get the air out of the fuel lines?
