Question 1999 f150 - PLEASE assist with keyless remote

I purchased a 1999 F150 about 5 months ago (1st one!) and it only had one key and no keyless entry remote AND no manual. I just purchased the remote yesterday and I can NOT figure out how to program it. I read somewhere to turn it off/on 8 times to get in to program mode. Nothing happens. Is there something that I need to connect in the truck? Any information to get this remote working would be greatly appreciated. I am at the end of my rope with this one.

I don't have an answer for you, but I have a '97 I just bought and I wanted to get the keyless remote for mine also. How much was the remote you bought and from where? I would imagine a ford dealer would be able to program the remote.

You may need to check to make sure you have the transmitter in the vehicle. It may not of been setup for keyless to begin with. I believe the module for the keyless is under the dash, in the center in front of the heater vents.

I agree with Billybob69, you need the module for it to work. If you do then you turn it on and off 8 times, then the locks will lock and unlock automatically, (this is when you are in the progamming mode) then press the button on the fob. Wait about 15 seconds then try the remote.

Question More assistance

Can you give me an idea as to what it would look like? And...let's assume that I don't have it. What would it cost (roughly) to get it?

It would be a thin flat box somewhere under the dash, probably drivers side...and no, no idea. Sorry.

From what I have seen, the module is usually located center of dash, in front of the heater vents, just up out of view unless you stick your head up under the dash. As for cost, get an aftermarket unit and wire that in. But first check EBay, I have seen lots of modules for sale on there. The dealer will cost you an arm and a leg for the module.

I have a 99 F150 reg cab 4x4 that I bought and it has an alarm and power doorlocks but I never got a remote for keyless entry from the previous owner.

I ordered the keyless remote off of ebay and did the 8 on/off's and nothing happend for me either. My instructions said if this doesn't work then take to dealer for programming.

So I went to the dealer last week to program my remote and they asked what type of truck because the programming is different for different years and models. They were going to charge me until they decided that my truck had the easy programming.

The dealer tried the exact same thing (8 on/off's) and then they said your truck must not be equipped for keyless because after doing the 8 on/off's the doors should have auto locked.

I said well my alarm went off last week and I couldn't turn it off since I did not have a remote. I had to pull the fuse to reset it. After realizing that it had an alarm on it they looked into it further and said that I did not have the the factory transmitter module.

I have an aftermarket system so I would have to go get a remote for it from the company that make my alarm.

I asked them how much it would cost for a module to install the factory remote they said it was over $400 dollars!!!!!!

Check ebay again. I know they aren't on there that often but I have seen them. May have to just wait until you find one to use the remote. In the mean time, look in youmanual. It shoul dhd ave the steps to disable it. At least that way you wont have to deal with the alarm until you have the whole unit installed. Or just disable it and get an after market unit that has the alarm and keyless entry.

Just in case you didn't make the distinction, you turn the accessories on then off 8 times, not the engine.

Also, there are different types of keyless entries. I believe there are 2 types, you need to find out which one your truck accepts.
