That Jetta took me about 1350 mile on 27 gallons of fuel. The combined mileage worked out to 51 MPG.
The car rented for $210/wk

I couldn't afford $300 to $400 in Gasoline.

I talked with personel at several Ford dealership's about Ford putting diesel engines in cars & small trucks to the F150.
They all agreed that would boost business for them.

Then they would just sit on their thumbs until the vehicles wore out

Oh man .... can you imagine a Powerstroke in a half ton?
I know it wouldn't get 51mpg...but who cares?

ford has a ranger with a 2.5 litre diesel... available in europe anyway... european governments came up with a bunch of subsidies for manufacturers to make more diesel cars and save gas

The problem with diesels in the increased pollution. Go to London, or Paris, or Hamburg, and take a DEEP breath. Now, try not to gag.

That is BS. Diesel puts out less polutiion and less toxic fumes then gas. I have been to london and I did not gag at all, American citys Im sorry to say have increased poluution and trash everywhere. I gag in LA or vegas.

That's a fallacy Andy.

The new diesels don't contaminate the air like the old Mercedes did from years ago.

That 2.0L has more than enough power to run a ranger.

Michelle & I love that car, next time I will try for a Passat.

IMO,The Jetta needs 70 series tires to smooth out the ride some.

I can't talk about my driving technique on FTE due the fact I may incriminate myself.

Michelle knows how good a driver I am & that's all that counts

Diesels may put out less pollution, but I sure gag when I get behind a bus or anything else diesel - don't know if it's just me or if this happens to other folks...how about it? Anyone else bothered when following a diesel?

I know if I'm riding my softail, being behind a diesel is VERY uncomfortable for breathing...

Ill agree with being uncomfortable behind buses or semi's, especially from behind a stop light. But the diesel passenger cars and even the 3/4 - 1 ton trucks are much much better, to me they smell propane.

The Jetta has the 1.9 still, the only one NA gets w/ the 2.0 TDI is the Passat. Just clarifying for anyone possibly doing research. Glad you got to drive one.

If a TDI is smoking it's definately been modified.

Don't blame the motors, blame the fuel.
