Tranny fluid as power steering substitute?
#32
If PS fluid is repackaged ATF, it's usually sold at much higher prices. So it doesn't make economic sense to use it in your transmission.
I've found that my power steering pump runs quieter with type-F ATF than Mercon. I used the cheap type-F once to flush out my PS system when I noticed the fluid turned milky. I was surprised to notice that it lost its characteristic whine as I was turning the gear to its limits to flush out the system.

What is the difference in,Dextron III, and Mercon V ? I bought III, and saw in the owners manual that it calls for Mercon V, I plan on a flush with the discharge line off after I change the filter.
Thanks, Bill ...>>>>>>>>"edited"...Found the info I needed, took the Dex III back, gonna go with the Merc V.
