Angry STUPID Air filters

Everyone already knows that the air filters are a real pain and ignorantly designed on the 6.0...

But has anyone broken off the retaining tabs on the bottom of the filter housing? I broke one of the two clips off the back of mine (the Mass Air side) when I removed it earlier today and now it won't seal up properly. When I shut the truck off, you can discintly hear a leak. Its driving me nuts; Ive got to go get a new filter tomorrow before I go to the track...

Yes....................

OK I'll tell you, after allot of looking at the stock unit, I came to the conclusion it is a very good one, just needs more cold air...so using what I already had cut in the rad support...well now it gets nice cool air, ...that is why.

Disclaimer: I do not in any why believe that the aftermarket ones are not good….they are very fine units.

I use the stock air box because it does a great job filtering out the dust but i do use a green filter which is similar to a k&n and it is awsome

A little off the subject..but nonetheless

I took the air filter completely out and took it down the road once to see how it did...( I don't need speeches on this one, lol I know its not safe)

But the truck had TERRIBLE lag, very little power, and was peaking at 22 lbs of boost with my chip on full blast. I put the filter back in and it went back to normal. Can someone explain this? It makes no sense to me

Much like THIS motor needs some back pressure exhaust to operate it is the same with the air cleaner....this motor is one of the most complicated systems built for the masses…it requires a tremendous amount of sensors to accomplish this very critical balance….the air filter is part of a extraordinarily intricate design. …just IMO

PSD--My best guess would be the MAFS getting incorrect air temp reading. Diesel tech I talked to told me the oil coating that would eventually build up from my reusable filter would drive it absolutely insane. He had just come from a week long school on this very thing back when the 6.0's were still new. He isn't just a parts changer but a real tech (the inside info you get when you work at a dealership--lol). That's the only thing electronic involved there (besides the filterminder).

This theory is represented when one of many very simple sensors goes bad or haywire...this thing takes a dump, or if one simply sticks…it takes a dump…..food for thought…

Anyone know of anyone that manufactures aftermarket performance MAF's for the 6.0? Ive heard they work wonders on the gas engines...
