Gas mileage for F20 7.3
This is my first post.....
My family have always been GM buyers but I think I might defect soon. I'm looking at buying a 2001 F250 Powerstroke crewcab. Can anyone tell me what they get per gallon? Also, how does installing a performance chip affect mileage and towing capacity?

On the highway I usually get 18-22 mpg. on my '01 CC. Your driving habits mean a lot in these trucks. If you can keep you rpm's about 1800-2000 you get better mileage. I don't think you can get 4.10 gears in the F-250s,they are 3.73. If you can get them in F-350's,the single rear wheel F-350's are just a few hundred more than the F-250's.

I have a '97 f 250 with 4:10's. It seems to wind up the r's more than I'd like but it pulls great. Mileage is about 14-16 in town with a heavy foot. Highway about 18mpg at 70-75 mph.
At 63mph its allready at 2000rpm . 16mpg is way better than my 86 big block suburban that gets 8-9 , and the truck has alot more power doing it!
Hmm. More power, better milage , and less money at the pump for diesel than gas.
Hope that helps.

Jeepnford,
Thanks for the insights. You can get a 4.10 axle with an F350 Dually. That's what I need to pull my trailer.
rondogw,
The mileage you're getting is better than the 11-12 hiway that I get with my 2000 F350 Crewcab with a 6.8L Gas V-10 and a 4.30 rear end. I'm leaning heavily toward a diesel for 2002.

I currently have two "01"s an f250 CC auto. and f350 Reg. 6 speed w/PSDs they have 4k miles and 600 miles respectively. Neither is broke in so fuel economy results will possibly get a bit better, but if they don't I am still pleased with getting 16.4 city & 20.6 Hwy with the F250 CC, and 17.6 City (no Hwy yet) with the F350 6 speed.
