Who has used FE motor mounts to swap a 460 into '79 F150?

I am trying to drop a 460 out of a 69 Conti into my 79 F150. I have 351m frame mounts and bellhousing in there and a 360 flywheel and clutch.

Someone said on here a while back that I could use FE mounts switched side for side for this swap. I bought a set of 390 motor mounts today, and they don't line up to the holes in the engine block, about a half inch or a little more difference in the bolt hole spacing between the block and the mounts.

I was wondering who has done this and if they had to drill new holes, or if they should line up and I have the wrong ones or something. Also whatever it took to make them work if they work.

Thanks

Dan

Dan,

My 78 F250 4x4 had a 351M / 400M in it. The guy that owned it before me put a 460 in it using FE motor mounts. In order to make it work, you have to bolt the mounts to the block at an angle, utilizing only 1 bolt. The motor doesn't sit in the bay correctly, so he home-made some brackets for the alternator and PS pump. It was a mess.
It is a REALLY cheese-ball way to do a conversion. I took the FE mounts off, and bought a set of conversion mounts for $100. The motor sits in there right, and I can use the factory accessory brackets.
The adapter mounts simply bolt to your factory 460 engine mounts, and then line up with the 351 / 400 brackets of your truck.... no cutting, welding, or having to jerry-rig a conversion. trust me.... buy a conversion kit, or you'll wish you had. I can get some for you if you want.... just e-mail me and let me know.

I also used the conversion plates for my 400 to 460 swap. They were $80 and go between the 460 block and the 400 mounts. It lines up perfectly.

Thanks for the help guys, I was able to use the 390 mounts by egging the holes and using the original lincoln motor mount holes in the block (both of them). Then we set it in there and bolted to trans and marked where the motor mount bolts hit the top of the 351M frame mounts, pulled it back out and cut the original style slotted holes about an inch farther forward.

The engine sits in there perfect. I am using electric fans, so we didn't have to get too crazy about where the fan would come out. I even used the stock licoln manifolds without clearance issues. The alternator cleared, and my ps pump is on the crankshaft on the front of the engine so it had no clearance issues at all. We fabbed up our own throttle linkage and used the 351m clutch linkage pivot brackets.
