84 351W from ford van, which flywheels can I use?

Does this year fall under the 28oz imbalance? or the 5-somethingoz imbalance?

Will the 302 one work?

I know the I6 won't.

Thanks

Question ????????

I have heard MANY different stories as to when the 351W and 302 flywheels switched balance, I would really like to find a definite answer before I drop the engine in. The guy from my local junkyard claims they switched balance in 1980, and that the 351 and 302 had different balances. Another person told me they are the same for 351w 1966-1998, and 302 1967-1997. And yet another source says they switched them both in 1985.

The only thing I know for sure is that the older ones are 28oz imbalance, and the newer ones are 56oz imbalance.

My engine is an 84 351w, so if there is anyone that can help me out I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks,

DanO

All years 351W will fit, pre-82 302 will fit, these are all 28oz imbalance, the 82 up 302 are 56oz imbalance.

Does that mean a 164 tooth flywheel out of a pre 82 mustang 302 will work?

Double check the teeth count/diameter to make sure it will work, but the balance should be ok.
