1996 ford explorer, unlock door button problem
I am having trouble with the unlock button on the drivers side only. The button will lock the door, but will not unlock it. I replaced the switch and still have the same problem. The passenger side button will lock and unlock the doors. Can anyone help?

alright enough already lets get this thing fixed. how many wires are going to your switch??i'll asume theres 5 if it's a 4 wire system let me know. these steps i'm laying out are for a 5 wire reversing polarity system okay here goes. these are for the wires at the drivers switch
1. black/white should be hot all the time
2. black ahould be grounded all the time
3.light blue/red is for a bulb don't worry about this one
4. pink/light green - unlock wire, normaly rests at ground should be hot when unlock is pressed
5. pink/yellow - lock wire, rests at ground should be hot when lock is pressed.
note: when lock wire is hot unlock should be grounded and when unlock wire is hot lock wire should be grounded.
if you are getting power to wire #1 and ground to wire #2 but no power to wire#4 &ground#5 when unlock is pressed the new switch you got is bad. heres one more test you can do to confirm the switch is bad. 1:unplug switch 2:jumper black to Pink/yellow
3:jumper black/white to pink/light green. as soon as both of these connections are made all doors should unlock. if they do get another switch. just let be know if you have 4 wires at the switch and i'll help you trouble shoot it if you have 4 wires you have an anti-theft module and probably factory keyless entry. hope this helps you. let me know what you find

I have the same problem with a 97 explorer. I took both door panels apart and the switches are interchangable. even though the text is now upside down it does work as a test. I used my Drivers side (DS) on the Passengers side (PS). It works fine on the PS but doesnt work on the DS. I would assume this is a wiring prob. I hate wiring lol .

I had the truck in the shop about 2 years ago for something unrelated and had the mechanic replace the switch then. It worked for kie 2 days. I was traveling at the time and had no time to get back to the shop. I didn't get some time for almost a year. Was in diff part of country. I would look stupid to go back now. Plus as i said the pass switch when I hooked it to the drivers door didnt work but the "new" driver side switch tested good on the passengers side. I think I will get out the ol multimeter and check some continuity of wires. If any one has some info on the wiring that would be great..
