Question Exploder leaning to the left

We have a '92 Exploder and recently I have noticed that when parked, it leans to the left. I parked it on an unlevel part of a parking lot where the right side wheels sat about 1 1/4" lower and it sat level. I have seen other early models on the road with them same lean. Is there a problem with the spring packs that they settle with age and should I look for new springs or get mine re-arched?

I have a '00 and it does the same. I have often wondered about that too. I have no answer as to why - just thought I would let you know and would be interested myself as to the reason.

Noticed the same on my '98. Haven't got around to looking at it yet other than the 6 month old shocks which look OK (dry). I'll be interested in any info also..

Ha, this is a good one, I have a '96 Explorer and was noticing the lean in my garage. I have new shocks all around except the shocks that are mounted horizontally in front of the rear diff. on some 4 door models (I call them the "rock shocks")

I like to tell myself the lean is put in the Explorer to counteract the torque in the driveline.... (it helps me sleep at night)

Hmm, the gas tank is on the left side of the truck if I remember correctly. That could be it since its extra weight to one side and not the other? Just a thought. Drive it to near empty and see if it still leans.

yes, that is the problem, the weight of both the driver and the gas tank, over time, cause the driver's side leaf pack to settle faster than the passenger side..... there is a fix, you actually take the leaf pack from the passenger side, and swap it to the Driver's side, and vice versa. The new driver's side pack will level out the vehilce, but keep in mind, it will settle eventually, and then the entire vehicle will sit about 1.5-2" lower.

if you just TT one side, you will get very wierd acting suspension.... and that is not very safe.

I don't know if the torsion twist on one side would adversley affect the suspension. When you do it all you change is the relative position of the torsion bar, the spring rate remains the same so it should be OK. In fact this is how you even the height of the front end.

no actually, it doesn't.... when you twist the tortion bars, to say, raise the vehicle, you get a stiffer ride, b/c the tortion bars can't twist as much over bumps, and that same thing would happen to the side that gets twisted to compensate for the lean, it won't be much, but still is unsafe.

I don't think anybody is understanding what I"m saying, so nevermind, go ahead and do it, but its unsafe to twist just one.

there is no prolblem with leveling with the bars (why do you think they came with factory adjusting bolts) there are also different bars rated at different stifness.

The only problem I see as being an issue with just the TT is the rear springs not being even (if its really saggin), like Lifted94XLT said. In that case you may have to swap the leafs and do a TT at the same time. Although I did a TT only to fix this (mine wasn't that bad) and didn't notice any adverse effects in handling.
